OUR HISTORY

Since the foundation of our company Havlík & Associates in 1990, we have designed and manufactured many glass objects, engraving them minutiously with a motive from our new collection. With the new catalog we are presenting you is a selection of these unique art pieces of glass and representative cross-section of the master works created by the glass blowers, glass cutters and the engraving art in our own workshops. The complete collection - apart from the pieces already sold - will also in future only be shown in Frankfort on the international exhibition Ambiente end of February and the Auttumn Exhibition end of August.

Since more than two years the glass objects to be engraved, such as vases, cups, etc., are designed by ourselves and manufactured in the glassworks. The motives never engraved in the past are taken from old copperplates or pen-and-ink drawings and adapted by re-drawing to the glass tobe engraved.

The copper wheel engraving method has not changed since its beginning. The copper wheels of different sizes and thicknesses, placed onto the engraving spindle, have the characteristic feature of adopting the abrasive powder to be used permitting the working-out the glass material in order to obtain the typical copper engraving surface. We do of course also use bronze-bound diamond wheels for rough preparatory works, yet the engraving of the details is always being made by means of a copper wheel, partially even under a magnifying lens. To polish the engraving, each master engraver uses his special wooden wheels and other means if techniques which he has acquired or learned from an older engraver and then further developed on his own.

Only the top engraver is in a position to polish his angravings and to maintain the secrets, convey them then to his son or a talented junior engraver, for this technique is not imparted in the vocational schools. Our engravers have been engaged in this trade fo parially up to 45 years. The young, talented engravers have thus always a yardistivk to compare with.

The engravings can be time-consuming ornaments, inscriptions, portrays and all kinds of motives from fauna, flora and the visual arts (positive/negative engraving) with the highest possible precision. Of course, we also supply the glass objects in customerspecific shapes and motives. It is furthermore always a pleasure for the staff of our workshops to manufacture duplicates for collectors and museum, and we are not afraid of any comparsion or task, no matter, how difficult it may be. Nevertheless, the special attention and aim of our art work has been and will be the manufacture of unique pieces, though some selected works will be offered in limited numbers.

We hope to have given you an insight in our company philosphy and hope that you will enjoy looking at these masterpieces.
